About me

I´m a student that apparently has too much time on her hands ;)

I grew up in Frisia but have called the pretty city Utrecht home since 2010. After I finished my Master´s in geology, I started chemistry courses with a view to complete the one year teaching degree course. So it´s perhaps not very strange the process of dying fascinates me.

In March 2017 I had my first dyeing experience with a workshop by Draadkracht at the Knit&Knot fair. I'd been thinking about it before but that was the moment it switched to reality. I started googling and looking up stuff on YouTube. And quite quickly grew frustrated because there are loads of how-to's to find, but none of them are complete and they are all different. And, more often than not, people showed off their gorgeous creations but didn't tell me how they had achieved it.... So, I thought I'd start compiling a tutorial! With how-to's on every skein I dye and an overview of the techniques. The aim is to make it as complete as possible. This will take quite a fair amount of time, I think, because I want to try everything out before I post it here... Bear with me and help me expand this project with any ideas, tips, requests and comments you may have!

I started knitting and crocheting in 2014. My mum taught me the basics of casting on and the knit stitch, but everything else I taught myself via YouTube and the odd workshop. Knitting, somehow, has my preference but I crochet sometimes too. I started the Scheepjes Hygge CAL with all the rest of you nicely on time but it has lain in a sad corner after I finished the first week and found other things to do. I´ve knitted scarfs, cowls, shawls, hats and gloves so far and plan to start (and finish) a sweater this year. Techniques I´m planning to conquer too: fair isle (and continental knitting with it), brioche (actually finish a scarf or something in a pretty 2 colour brioche pattern) and socks. I cast on my first pair about two weeks ago but it too has suffered from my lack of attention. Starting to detect a pattern here?

Another passion of mine is photography. Which combines really well with knitting and dyeing luckily ;) I bought a semipro camera last autumn and ever since this hobby has really taken off. When I´m not photographing knitting stuff I photograph nature and landscapes mostly. Check my pictures out here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/101305695@N05/sets/

Well, that´s the most important stuff about me I guess. I could probably mention I´m also an avid reader and Doctor Who fan, but who isn´t? Certainly the people that matter are ;)

Love, Janet
